FIVE INGREDIENTS FOR RAISING A WRITER
This week a new macro counting cookbook I had ordered arrived. (Anyone else into macros?) I was so excited to dive in, but after a quick glance I wasn’t sure it was the right cookbook for me.
Why?
The recipes had too many ingredients. And many of these ingredients I had never heard of before.
I like to cook, and I don’t mind making a mess in the kitchen now and then. I’m really into macro cooking, but honestly, I’m into a lot of things and I have a lot going on over here. (I also need ingredients I can pronounce!)
When it comes to sharing about writing instruction with you, Emily and I want to do better than my cookbook.
We know you’re into it. We know you’re willing to “get messy” and create great experiences for your kids. But we also know you have a lot going on!
Yes, teaching writing is nuanced and complex. Yes, there are lots of schools of thought and “ingredients” to getting it right, but we are here to absorb that for you and distill writing instruction down to what works best!
If we only had one recipe card to share with you, we’d say it like this:

This is really, truly, scout’s honor what we know works best with writing. We’ve been sharing about it for years (and clearly we’re still at it!) but the cool thing is we’re not just talking about it anymore! We love that we now have a writing program you can print and use with your kids that checks off the “5 Ingredients” and gives you an easy way to incorporate positive writing experiences into the important work you’re doing with your children.
