We want to teach you something new about writing with your kids.
And it’s going to sound a little crazy.
Here it is:
Surprised? Maybe you’re not because when you think about it, it’s when your kids REALLY care about their writing that they take an extra long time. Right?
For example:
- They want to change the start.
- They aren’t sure if they have the right title.
- They include extra talk bubbles to their picture.
- They read it out loud to you (for the fifth time) and make little changes as they read.
Little moments like this are evidence your child wants to get it “right.” When this starts to happen, you can be assured everything else is going to get there because your child is becoming a person who CARES about doing it well.
They are becoming writers.
This won’t come all at once, but be on the lookout for evidence. There are likely many more good things going on than you realize!
We made you this printable, “12 Signs Your Child is Becoming a Stronger Writer,” to give you ideas on what to watch for.
Something to try this week: print one out for each of your children and be on the lookout for great things your kids are doing.
When you notice them taking an “extra long time,” or any of the other cool behaviors on this page, record the date and what you see happening.
